  • Now this is a game I would've put into my 2023 Halloween video had the game been out back then. Mouthwashing is a short-form indie horror game set aboard the Tulpar, a space-faring cargo vessel owned by the failing courier Pony Express. The game tells it's story in a non-linear fashion, jumping between events pre and post crash with an asteroid. The cast of NPCs includes, Anya, the ships' nurse, Swansea, the gruff and aloof head of maintenance, and Daisuke, Swansea's hyped up intern. The two player characters are the co-pilot Jimmy and the head pilot Curly, who is reduced to an charred living corpse post-crash. The plot revolves around the events just before and just following a crash with an asteroid that was allegedly caused by Curly. Left with a nonfunctional craft that had most of it's tools necessary for survival destroyed in the crash, Mouthwashing depicts the crew's struggle to stay alive on the ruined vessel in addition to grappling with the harrowing reality of being faced with your owned sins. Honestly this game has a lot going on and while I could write a half baked review right now, I think I want to stew on it for a bit longer before I write anything detailed. Writing anything less than something very deliberate would be a disservice to Mouthwashing. So for the time being, stop reading and go play it >:)
